Letter in which Howard updates Lieut. Griswold on an unexplained misunderstanding that arose following Griswold's departure from South Carolina. Letter alludes to a dispute at Fort Moultrie that involved a man named [Dr.?] Wharton; Howard speaks favorably of Griswold's service at the fort during the previous summer, and implies that the dispute may have involved the Quarter Master.
